4 suicide cases in Cebu over the weekend

CEBU, Philippines - An 18-year-old construction worker hanged himself in Barangay Panadtaran, San Fernando, Cebu yesterday morning while three other suicide incidents were reported in Cebu for the past two days.

Ramil Paraiso was found hanging from a coconut tree located 150 meters away from his house. He was discovered by his cousin, Maricel Villasorda, who was securing her goats in the area.

PO1 Salvador Saavedra of San Fernando Police Station said they received the report from Paraiso’s sister, Cathy, at 6:16 a.m. Monday.

Cathy said her brother became indifferent when he returned from Argao town where he visited their siblings.

“Pagbalik, naghinuktok na, unya mahadlok pirmi og nerbyoson. Nikalit lang,” she said.

 Meanwhile, 71-year-old Arquiles Abucay was found dead inside the comfort room in his house in Sitio Tawagan, Brgy. Tayud, Consolacion, Cebu at 3:28 a.m. Sunday.

Abucay was found kneeling on the floor with a rope tied around his neck. His nephew Daryl, who was accompanying him before the incident and who discovered his lifeless body, said that Abucay told him that he has a plan to kill his wife.

 Initial investigation shows that Abucay stabbed his wife, Crispina, before he committed suicide.

Crispina was able to run and sought help from their daughter. Abucay was left in the house while Crispina was rushed to the hospital.

Crispina told the police that she does not have a good relationship with her husband. She even filed a case against him five years ago.

 She claimed that her husband was addicted to gambling and would always ask for money.

On the same day, 43-year-old Roy Giducos was found dead inside his house in Brgy. Poblacion, Santa Fe, Bantayan Island at 7:40 a.m. The police reportedly saw Giducos hanging inside the comfort room.

Giducos was reportedly living alone since his live-in partner and three children left him for almost a year now.

In another suicide incident, Hernanie Dawat, 49, was found dead Saturday inside his house in Barangay Busay, Cebu City. Dawat’s body was already in a state of decomposition when found.PO1 John Errick Samosa of the Cebu City Police Office Homicide Section said that the victim was bothered after losing P8,000 during a drinking session days before.

 The P8,000 cash was reportedly intended to buy materials for the construction of the house of his boss. (FREEMAN)
