No bail for two suspects

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office has recommended no bail for two of seven men arrested in the recent simultaneous police operations in the towns of Alcoy and Dalaguete.

Assistant Provincial Prosecutor Petronio Elesterio indicted Mario Coronel, 49, for violation of Republic Act 9516 or illegal possession of explosives before the Regional Trial Court in Argao and recommended no bail for his temporary release.

Elesterio likewise recommended no bail against Alvin Coronel, 20, who was charged for violating Section 11 of RA 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Alvin was arrested in Barangay Nug-as, Alcoy after he was seized with 10 grams of shabu.

The suspects’ alleged cohorts, Vicente Asenjo, 36; Randi Belda, 32; Lucino Quevido, 58; Michael Manriquez, 45; and Mario Coronel were charged for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

The prosecutor recommended P175,000 bail for each of the five suspects for violation of Republic Act 10591.

Last October 18, the Police Regional Office-7 and Cebu Provincial Police Office conducted simultaneous raids on suspected criminals in Dalaguete and Alcoy that led to the arrest of ten persons and the killing of Jojo Gañolon, Jaylhone Mercado and Lorenzo Coronel in a shootout.  (FREEMAN)
