Car hits, kills woman; driver unidentified

CEBU, Philippines - A call center agent died on the spot after she was hit while crossing the road near the flyover in Barangay Banilad, Cebu City Thursday evening.

Marjun Duran, a native of Bacolod City, was hit by a red Sedan vehicle based on the closed-circuit television footages obtained from one of the establishments close to the crime scene.

The driver of the vehicle is still unidentified.

City Traffic Operations Management operations chief Joy Tumulak said a detached piece from the hood of the said vehicle was recovered at the scene.

He, however, said the plate number of the car could not be identified from the CCTV footage owing to its being unclear.

Duran was reportedly hired for call center work last September 8.

She was staying in Alicia Tower, Barangay Banilad.

Based on the footage, Tumulak noted Duran was on the other side of the road, stepping on the foot lane of the flyover.

When she crossed the street, however, she was not able to notice the speeding red Sedan going by.

The vehicle, Tumulak said, came from Talamban and was en route to Cebu City.

Tumulak added that the victim was thrown away almost 16 meters from where he stood.

The CITOM chief encouraged the public to immediately report any red Sedan vehicle with a damaged hood to the local police. — Grace Melanie I. Lacamiento/JMD (FREEMAN)
