American dies in road mishap; Guinean goes wild inside bar

CEBU, Philippines -  A 51-year-old American national died after his motorcycle rammed into a center isle of Captain Ancajas Avenue in Barangay Cogon, Bogo City Thursday evening.

Gary Dean Tripi, resident of Barangay Tapul, Tabogon town, died a few minutes after his arrival in the hospital after his Suzuki motorcycle bearing a plate number of 2958 GQ rammed into the isle.

According to the initial investigation of the Bogo Police, Tripi was said to be bound for Tabogon from Bogo when the accident happened.

Police Officer 3 Jerry Dela Cruz, traffic investigator of Bogo, said they are still investigating where exactly the victim came or went prior to the incident.

“Ang sa ako lang kay base og didto ni gikan sa Tambayan o murag kan-anan nga duna sab imnanan kay sa akong nabantayan atong lugara duna may daghang Amerikano nga magtambay, pero di pa sab ko sigurado ana,” said Dela Cruz.

Tripi was said to be under the influence of liquor and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident which led to his severe head injury.

“Ang ingon sa mga nakakita nalumping kuno ang tunga-tunga sa iyang agtang,”  said Dela Cruz.

Tripi was immediately rushed to Felipe Verallo Memorial Hospital but was declared dead by an attending physician a few minutes after. His body now lies in their house.

Meanwhile, a Papua New Guinean ended up in jail after allegedly creating trouble inside a certain bar in Barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City Wednesday evening.

Saah Joshua, 24, a computer engineering student in a certain university and currently residing at Ayala Condominium, was arrested after he allegedly threatened Lynn Princess Miranda and Mark Anthony Desierto, both residents of the same place.

According to investigator Edgar Priollanita of Fuente Osmeña Police Station, while Joshua was drinking in the bar, he suddenly became wild and kicked Miranda and Desierto.

Not contented, he further allegedly destroyed the wiper of the car of one of the victims.

The foreign national was immediately arrested by the barangay tanods and turned over to the police.

When Joshua woke up in the morning inside the jail, the police said he was seemingly wondering why he ended up there and said he felt sorry for what had happened.

He is currently detained at Fuente Osmeña Police Station and is waiting for charges to be filed against him including the violation of the City Ordinance 1929 on drunkenness. — Jojo C. Ugdol and Patrice Kate Rebuta, USJR MassComm Intern/JMD (FREEMAN)
