Drug raps filed vs. ‘fish vendor’

CEBU, Philippines - A criminal complaint for drug selling was filed yesterday against the fish vendor who was arrested in a buy-bust operation conducted by the City Intelligence Branch in Barangay Sawang Calero, Cebu City last Friday.

The CIB filed criminal complaints before the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office against Roger Roxas, 25, a resident of Gen. Gines Street, Barangay Sawang, Calero, Cebu City.

He was arrested through a buy-bust operation where the police seized 26 packs of shabu amounting to P7.8 million.

Roxas was charged for a violation of Section 5, Article II of Republic Act 9165 or illegal selling of drugs and Section 11, Article II of RA or illegal possession of shabu.

Chief Insp. Romeo Santander, CIB chief, said Roxas has cohorts whom they have identified and who could also dispose more than a kilo of shabu.

“We now have information of the grassroots of Roxas who is confirmed in our list,” Santander said.

Santander disclosed that the supplier of illegal drugs is not permanently staying in Cebu City. Police are now coordinating with the Philippine Drugs and Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

Santander said that the confiscation of the 7.8 million worth of shabu was a major blow to the local drugs trade.

“Alkansi ni sa part sa supplier kay napakgang nato,” Santader said.

Results of the tests conducted on the seized powder proved the item to be shabu. It weighed a kilo and 372 grams.

Santander added they are also intensifying their intelligence operations to determine the identities of other drug dealers. (FREEMAN)
