Davide to take up projects with PNoy

CEBU, Philippines - Governor Hilario Davide III will be attending the State of the Nation Address of President Benigno Aquino III this Monday. Davide confirmed yesterday that all governors were invited to attend and witness Aquino’s SONA.

He said he does not know if he would have a chance to speak with Aquino on Monday, but if he gets the chance he said he will seek for support from the national government on priority projects of the province.

For one, he said he will mention the proposal to construct the trans-axial highway.

Prior to his win in the gubernatorial race, Davide have already mentioned that he will revive the proposal of the late vice governor Gregorio Sanchez for the construction of the Cebu Trans-axial highway.

A feasibility study was already made for the proposal years back but was halted when Sanchez’ working relationship with then Governor Gwendolyn Garcia was soured.

Davide have said that this will be one of his major projects and he will look for ways for it to be funded.

He said yesterday that he has already hinted to Aquino early on that when he starts working, he would seek for help on some projects.

“A very ambitious project but at least matun-an with a feasibility study,” said Davide, adding that the trans-axial highway may not be finished in his term.

The provincial government reportedly spent P60 million for the feasibility study of the trans-axial highway which is expected to make transportation from the northernmost part of the province to the southernmost part easier.

He will also be leaving this morning to attend the election of the League of Provinces in the Philippines in Manila. When asked if he would run for a position he said no.

“Dili oi,” Davide answered, laughing.

Davide also said it is too early for him to give his State of the Province Address.

“I have nothing to report yet. Maybe after a year,” he said.  (FREEMAN)
