Frasco’s campaign manager shot dead

CEBU, Philippines - The campaign manager of Liloan Mayor Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco who is also his uncle was shot dead while reading a newspaper outside his house early morning yesterday in Barangay Poblacion, Liloan.

The unidentified gunman reportedly went near Marlito “Titi” Cañete, 51, before he shot him once in the head around 7:30 a.m.

Cañete was rushed to the Perpetual Soccour Hospital in Cebu City Liloan District Hospital but he did not make it alive.

The gunman’s cohort was waiting for him in a motorcycle without plate number a few meters away from scene.  They both speed off towards the north.

Based on the account of witnesses, the attacker and his companion were seen across the road as if waiting for someone several minutes before the shooting.

The gunman then crossed the road and shot at Cañete while at a sari-sari store beside Titay’s Rosquillos.

Insp. Leo Ty, Liloan police chief, said witness described the gunman as bald, has medium build, stands about 5’5”, wearing black jacket and black pair of shorts while the driver of the motorcycle was wearing a white helmet and a jacket.

Police recovered a slug of an undetermined caliber of firearm from the crime scene.

The police are still conducting further investigation to determine the motive of the attack.

Cebu Provincial Police Office director Patrocinio Comendador  directed the Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Branch (PIDMB) and the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) to assist the Liloan police in the investigation.

Supt. Renato Malazarte, deputy provincial director for operation, said that they now has a lead based on the account of the eye witness.

They will also be reviewing the close-circuit television camera footage.

“We will also do a background checking of the victim to know if he was not involved in an argument prior to the incident,” Malazarte said.

Mayor Frasco refused to issue a statement yesterday. — (FREEMAN)
