Police destroy 214 gambling machines

CEBU, Philippines - Over two hundred illegal gambling machines were destroyed by the police at the Cebu City Police Office yesterday morning.

Cebu City Police Office Director Melvin Ramon Buenafe said that they destroyed more machines yesterday than during the anti-gambling rally held last Oct. 25 at Fuente Osmeña.

More than 90 percent of the 214 gambling machines destroyed were confiscated from anti-gambling operations in Cebu City.

“Continuous ‘yung pag-conduct nila ng operation (station commanders) although some of them (gambling machines) were abandoned in the areas, kumbaga they were not operating during the time the operatives raided the area.  But then again, kailangan nato tangtangon sa community para di na mobalik ang pag-operate,” Buenafe said.

The estimated value of the illegal gambling machines destroyed was set at P2.4 million.

Just a few days ago, the biggest amount of cash evidence from illegal gambling was confiscated by operatives from the City Intelligence Branch led by Chief Insp. Romeo Santander.  —BRP (FREEMAN)
