A “triple camera” phone

We thought mobile imaging standards couldn’t get any better than the “dual-camera” setup, like what brands like Huawei have put on the map. But last week, Samsung had a brief introduction of a smartphone with a “triple camera” setup. The brand’s latest “Galaxy A7” model comes with a “wide angle” lens (with a 120-degree field of view), a “depth optimization” lens for tight bokeh effects and a main 24-megapixel lens.

The setup is powered by the brand’s “Intelligent Scene Optimizer,” which basically helps its users adjust shooting elements like brightness and contrast levels. This feature is backed by an impressive 24-megapixel front-facing camera which comes with a “Selfie Focus” feature, a range of “vanity filters” and more.

Topped by a six-inch screen, the unit is powered by an octa-core processor with 6 gigs of RAM and 128 gigs of internal storage. It also touts a fingerprint sensor and enhancements like Dolby Atmos speakers.

To be formally unveiled next month in Samsung’s “Galaxy Event,” the device is identified by Samsung as a “mid-level” device. The brand has yet to announce a unit’s price, and this has roused a lot of interest.

Immersive “Virtual Reality” web browser

Mozilla, maker of the globally famed Firefox web browser, rolled-out “Firefox Reality” last week. The browser was developed for immersive virtual reality browsing using a dedicated virtual reality viewer, and is different from desktop browsers that come with WebVR support.

With the new browser, users can check out webpages and VR content without using a mouse but a VR kit’s controller.

With a number of internet-of-things players pushing for the development of VR content, the browser maximizes VR content that’s currently hosted in the net, apart from setting new standards in the arena of virtual reality web browsing.

“PlayStation One” mini version

Sony announced last week that it will be releasing an updated version of the hit “PlayStation One” console before the year ends – a “mini” version that’s pre-loaded with 20 “PlayStation One” game titles.

Expected for release this December 3 to commemorate the game console’s 24th release anniversary in Japan, the console is roughly 45 percent smaller in size than the original, and among the title’s to be pre-loaded with it are “Final Fantasy VII,” “Tekken 3,” “Wild Arms,” “Jumping Flash,” and “Ridge Racer Type 4.”

With the retro gaming-theme it underscores, many have compared the forthcoming release of the console as a “clone” of last year’s re-release of Nintendo’s NES and SNES classic consoles. More information on the new “PlayStation” is hosed on Sony’s official online channels.
