How to Stay Stylish in the Rain

CEBU, Philippines - The summer was such a challenge. It was so hard to sustain a fresh look under sweltering sun. The moment one went out of the building, sweat began to drip.

The coming of the rainy days provides relief from the summer heat, no doubt. But it presents its own style challenge, too. The frequent showers pose a big threat to both outfit and makeup.

Of course, there are ways around it. But if one really has to get drenched, people around will surely understand – one can’t always avoid the rain.  And yet, if people are kind enough to understand someone who looks like a cake left out in the rain, it means the poor fellow really looks terrible.

So, again, it is important to know of ways to avoid looking terrible in the rain.  The following ideas shared by Harshima Sharma at www.goodtimestv.in will certainly help:

Bright colors and polka dots

The grey skies may be countered with the colors of the rainbow. Yellow, poppy red, blue and green will keep one looking upbeat in damp weather. And there’s something about the rain that makes polka dots nice to wear.

Trendy rain gear

Once upon a time, raincoat was an ugly word style-wise. It’s no longer so. Nowadays there are high fashion rainwear, windcheaters and umbrellas in appealing colors and funky patterns that work for style.

Keep it short

One may dress for comfort in shorts, capris and skirts, which will allow splashing through puddles without a second thought. The trousers and long skirts may be saved for the next sunny season.

Don’t wear white

Likewise, don’t wear any shade of pale, unless the thought of mud stains are welcome.

Plastic fantastic

Accessories in this made-for-rain material are obviously practical. And waterproof bags and belts may spice up the look.

It’s a shoe in

Colorful and funky flip-flops, peep-toes and ballerinas are a great help in navigating the rain washed streets. The rainy season is no time for high heels. And it’s not time to splurge on pricey shoes, either; instead, one shall stay pocket-friendly and buy the cheap and chic stuff from street side stalls. These are probably going to be worn just this one season anyway.

Don’t lose your hair

Rainy-day fashion is not only about clothes and accessories. Looking good when the heavens are opening up above also means taking care of one’s hair. Hairfall is the most common problem of the season. Thus, it makes sense to go for a short and stylish hair-cut that is low maintenance. To prevent frizzy locks, a mild shampoo may be used. A warm oil massage before shampooing helps retain luster. The scalp may be cleaned with a mild, medicated shampoo to beat dandruff. It’s also good to supplement one’s diet with fruits, vegetables, milk and eggs to avoid bad hair days.

Best face forward

One shall stay clear of heavy makeup, which is sure to smudge in the humidity. Instead, one may choose waterproof foundation, mascara and eye liner. Thick kohl pencils may be swapped with ultra-thin ones.

Costume jewelry

The real stuff may be ditched this season. Instead, one may pick plastic bangles, bead necklaces and stone baubles.

Trendy water-proof watches

Leather and metal watches become dull and discolored in the rain. There are plenty of water resistant timekeepers to choose from these days. (FREEMAN)
