Cebu Staging of "The Normal Heart"

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - How far do Filipinos know about the current HIV/AIDS situation in the country? Or, how much do Cebuanos, in particular, know about it? It's a serious issue and everyone needs to know.

The Young Thespians of Cebu (YTC) is presenting the award-winning stageplay, "The Normal Heart." Written by Larry Kramer, the play tracks the story of the birth and public concern on AIDS in New York in the 80s, at about the time when the deadly epidemic was decimating North America's gay population, killing people in the thousands, devastating an entire generation and forever changing the way people think about sex. It has moved audiences worldwide and tackles many relevant and universal themes such as gender and society, acceptance and fighting for self-determination.

Rated as PG-13, "The Normal Heart" is a powerful drama. The play's material consists of anger and suffering, and heart for the victims. Emman Mante directs the cast composed of Carlo Alonzo, Clint Solante, Yvette Dapat, Jessee Carl Atienza, Choi Castellano Jr, Jomar Gatchalian, Niño Atwel Ardiza, Niño Malazarte, Francis Eric Isidro, Revan Sinadjan, Lord Lawrence Latonio, Martin Renz Dimabayao, Michael Banaynal, Renzi Jay Chan II, Everild Catugal, Fitzgerald Gonzaga, Bong Camon and Melf Temblor.

The play dates are on February 24, 25 and 26, at the USPF Lahug Auditorium. For tickets and updates, one may visit www.facebook.com/YoungThespiansCebu/ or call Rhodamae at 0929 788 5888 or email to [email protected]. (FREEMAN)
