Teo and his friends were flying kites in the field when they overheard three farmers chatting.
Farmer 1: Remember when we were kids, we used to swim in the Burobor river.
Farmer 2: Burubor was so clean then!
Farmer 3: When I lost my shorts…
Laughter.
Farmer 1: We could clearly see everything…
Farmer 2: You dove for it quickly!
Louder laughter.
Farmer 3: Now it’s… argh! People secretly dump garbage there. The barangay tanod hasn’t caught any culprit.
The kite fliers looked at each other. Then they agreed to work together in Teo’s house the next day: some paint, scraps of wood, and nails.
Done in no time! Rushing to the Burubor, they put up the big sign they had worked on: SOMEONE’S LOOKING!
They assigned themselves to be spies every hour, hiding and popping out whenever someone came to throw trash.
“Sir, here’s our plan,” they told Mr. Tito Martinez, the barangay captain.
“Why didn’t I think of that?” he exclaimed. “Great, boys! When you have no classes, be the morning spies and a tanod will be the night spy!”
After one week, the Burubor was – well, not too clean yet, but the boys knew that soon, they could swim there too!
