The Red Dress

CEBU, Philippines - There was a time when majority of women wore dresses - and not trousers - as a rule, although by the end of the nineteenth century, some females were starting to wear trousers to perform industrial work.

The reason for this is because trousers are extremely practical and easy to wear. When wearing them the woman does not have to be concerned with preventing the skirt from being blown by the wind or have to worry about getting into and out of an automobile in a ladylike manner, especially if she is wearing a pencil skirt.

On the other hand, despite the prevalence of trouser-wearing among women nowadays, dresses remain popular for formal affairs such as weddings and black-tie events.

From its figure flattering silhouettes to its attractive feminine designs, dresses are often sought after to add a touch of stylish femininity to any look. A woman would naturally have different style preferences depending on her mood. For this reason, she   needs to have a diverse collection of trendy and classic dresses in her closet.

Other than the nice black dress that every woman should have, the red dress comes close to a must-have.

The color red - be it a dress, a rose or lipstick - symbolizes love, passion and above all glamour. A red dress can make a self-assured statement for any occasion. Because it can draw attention on its own, it is important to choose the right accessories to complete the look without going over the top. Oftentimes the accessories are more subdued than those that would go with a more neutral color such as beige, white or blue.

By planning and choosing the perfect jewelry, bag and shoes to go with a red dress, it is easy for any woman to be the life of the party, no matter where she goes.

Here are a few suggestions to consider when  accessorizing a red dress:

l. For a strapless dress or one with a plunging neckline, a simple necklace would be ideal. Gold is a particularly flattering color to match with a bright red dress because the combination of both hues is elegant and regal.

2. Earrings are an elegant addition to nearly any dress. Dangling earrings look particularly good with a red dress and an upswept hairstyle. Other options include teardrop earrings that dangle just below the earlobe, the studs that are more subtle and the hoops which make a complete circle around the earlobe.

3. Finding shoes with the same shade of red as the dress is difficult and something else could come off as less sophisticated. The safest option is black, either in patent leather pumps or strappy sandals that can create a classic look.

4. Hardly will you find a woman make an appearance without some kind of purse. A clutch is a better choice than a large shoulder or tote bag because it does not distract from the perfect red dress. The clutch either in red, black or even metallic gold or silver creates a unified look with the other accessories.

5. For belts or shawls, black is a strong neutral that can hold its ground against a red dress. Tie a black belt around your waist to break up the monotony of a solid red. You can also wrap a black lace shawl around your shoulders for evening wear.

And, when you choose accessories to wear with your dress, stick with simple, unobtrusive pieces that add a little interest and contrast without drawing too much attention. Always remember to keep your dress the focal point of your outfit. (FREEMAN)
