Sinulog Idol 10

CEBU, Philippines — Zane Dugaduga of Talisay City was hailed Star of the Night in Sinulog Idol Season 10’s third elimination round that was meant to showcase Cebuano or Visayan folk songs.

She amazed the crowd at Plaza Independencia with her version of “Ngano Kaha,” an original piece by former “Sinulog Idol” finalist Mariel Minglanilla.

“Lipay kaayo ko. Wala ko mag-expect nga ako ang mapilian sa kadaghan namo nga maayo karong gabhiuna,” said Dugaduga, who was joined at the Top 3 by fellow contenders Jessa Abaquita and James Alfafara.

Abaquita also wowed the audience as she sang her original piece from the 2016 Cebu Pop Music Festival, “Uyab Ta Pero Dili Ta Magsaba.”

Alfafara, for his part, redeemed himself after being part of the Bottom 3 for two consecutive nights.

Banat News Entertainment Editor Ryan Mark Borinaga commented that he was finally in the game.

“I have to say that welcome to Sinulog Idol kay for two nights I’ve been telling you backstage ngano man ka nga wa man kay ayo on stage. Kahibaw ko kung unsa ka nga singer. I’ve been telling you nga di pwede nga matagak ka,” the “Sinulog Idol” resident judge said.

Vocal coach Jay Unchuan likewise quipped that Alfafara’s performance was totally different from the first two nights.

“I always felt like your song choices and how you perform are just pa-safe-safe, pa cute-cute and pabebe boy but tonight’s performance was a different James and I think if you keep that up the next days, I am pretty sure that you will be safe,” Unchuan said.

But Punta Princesa’s Kyla Dizon failed to land on the safe side, as she was the second finalist to be cut.

“It was really my voice, that’s why I couldn’t belt out my song,” she explained. “I was sick since this morning and I was thinking nga dili na unta ko mokanta pero akong gi-push kay this is a competition. I am here and I have to go for it whatever it takes.”

Still, she feels blessed despite the loss.

“I learned how to always have a strong heart. Though it’s very unpredictable but I always keep in mind that whatever happens, always trust yourself,” said Dizon.
