GMA stars win big at 10th PMPC Star Awards for Music

CEBU, Philippines —  Various Kapuso stars, led by prime actor Alden Richards, were recognized by the Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) at the 10th anniversary celebration of the Star Awards for Music held September 10, at Resorts World Manila.

 

 Dubbed “A Decade of OPM Excellence,” the event included awardees for both the 9th (2017) and 10th (2018) Star Awards for Music.

Alden was one of the night’s biggest winners, winning the 2017 Male Pop Artist of the Year award as well as the Pop Album of the Year and Album of the Year awards for his second album under GMA Records, “Say It Again.” The Pambansang Bae feels glad to have the award-giving body’s continuous support for his craft. “Maraming salamat po sa PMPC at sa mga kapwa ko artists na patuloy na nagpapayaman ng OPM,” he said.

Asia’s Romantic Balladeer and “The Clash” judge Christian Bautista was named as the 2018 Male Recording Artist of the Year for his song “Kapit.” He expressed his thanks to all the people behind his success. “Thank you to the singers and songwriters who allowed me to create new music with them. Thank you to @stagestalents for always guiding and supporting my ideas. Thank you to the fans who loved the album. Thanks be to God for always being there, never letting me go.”

Asia’s Pop Sweetheart Julie Anne San Jose, in turn, won as the 2017 Female Pop Artist of the Year. She shared her award with her fans, and congratulated all the musicians that continue to deepen Filipino’s love for OPM. “Maraming salamat PMPC Star Awards for Music sa parangal na ito! Mabuhay ang OPM! To God be the glory,” the Kapuso star shared.

Meanwhile, breakthrough star Kyline Alcantara was recognized as the 2018 New Female Recording Artist of the Year for her performance in “Sundo,” a single also produced by GMA Records. Fresh from her concert that took place the night before, Kyline was still on a high as she received the recognition, which she offered to her loyal supporters—her “Sunflowers.”

Other Kapuso stars recognized at the Star Awards for Music were “The Clash” judge and Asia’s Nightingale Lani Misalucha (2017 Female Concert Performer of the Year for her Masquerade Concert); Pepito Manaloto mainstay Jessa Zaragoza (2017 Revival Album of the Year award for “20/30 Dingdong and Jessa Commemorative” album with her husband Dingdong Avanzado);  Unang Hirit’s Regine Tolentino (2018 Dance Album of the Year for her  “Moving To The Music” album); and Ex Battalion (2018 Song of the Year for “Hayaan Mo Sila,” 2018 Music Video of the Year for “Follow My Lead” and 2018 Rap Artist of the Year).
