Ralston Jover’s film “Bomba” won two acting citations at the 33rd Warsaw International Film Festival.

The Facebook post of the film’s line producer, Dennis Evangelista, reported that Allen Dizon and Angelie Nicole Sanoy won a Special Jury Prize for the film in the prestigious A-List film festival where 15 movies competed in the main competition.

One of the competing films is the entry from France titled “If   You Saw His Heart” featuring Chilean actor Gael Garcia Bernal of  “Y Tu Mama Tambien” fame.

There were no acting awards in the festival. The awards given to Allen and Angelie were the only acting citations given.

Winning the Best Picture Award was the entry from China.

Dennis said that the Special Jury Prize for acting won by Allen and Angelie was a big deal for him. The other competing films in the festival also boasted of outstanding performances. He had seen the entries from Russia, Iran, an avant-garde film from Germany that was shot in Thailand, and a film from France.

The jury members were mostly from Eastern Europe namely Claudia Landberger and Jan Hryniak from Poland, Denis Ivanoy from Ukraine, Eran Riklis from Israel and Ivica Zubak from Croatia.

Dennis thanked director Ralston Jover for bringing out the best of his actors and for coming up with a very powerful film. Opening today in theaters nationwide is “The Barker,” the first solo starrer of Empoy Marquez and the directorial debut of Dennis Padilla.

Fresh from the success of the mega-hit movie “Kita Kita,” Empoy showcases his own brand of comedy that has endeared him to his fans.

Playing Empoy’s leading lady in the movie is Viva Princess Shy Carlos, who earned good reviews for her performance in the movie “Ang Pagsanib Kay Leah Dela Cruz.”

Dennis, who is making his directorial debut, is keeping his fingers crossed that “The Barker” will make good at the box-office.

Empoy admits he is quite nervous that “The Barker” is hitting theaters. Since “Kita Kita” became successful at the box-office, all eyes are on Empoy if he can make “The Barker” a hit. Will it earn as much as his last movie?

Also featured in “The Barker” are Jeric Raval, Wilma Doesn’t, Ronnie Lazaro, Janice Jurado and “The Greatest Love’s” power tandem of Sylvia Sanchez and Nonie Buencamino. Also in the movie are newcomers Jemina Sy and Raffy Reyes.

Hail to the Queen! Asia’s Songbird Ms. Regine Velasquez had a successful two-night concert at the MOA Arena last October 21 and 22 titled “R.30,” produced by Viva Live and directed by Paolo Valenciano.

Regine proved once more her musical talent that had carried her thru 31 years in showbiz. She performed before a jampacked crowd of cheering fans. The crowd would break into cheers each time Regine hits the high notes. They also liked the number where Regine was surrounded by “bekis” (gays) who sashayed onstage while Regine belted a song.

There were even two “bekis” who couldn’t control themselves and had a selfie with the Songbird onstage right after the rousing number.

We watched on the first night and we liked the number that Regine did with her son Nate. They sung “I Can,” the theme of the movie “Do-Re-Mi” which Regine did with Donna Cruz and Mikee Cojuangco. In the middle of the number with Nate, Donna and Mikee came up onstage to sing with Regine and Nate.

Said movie was released in 1996 and Regine dedicated the song to Ms. Margot Gallardo, the record producer of the soundtrack album of “Do-Re-Mi” who recently passed away.

We also liked the theme songs medley that Regine did with husband Ogie Alcasid. They sang the original theme songs that Ogie composed for her movies.

Also a winner was the number she did with Jona, Morisette, Aicelle Santos, Julie Anne San Jose and Angeline Quinto.

A touching part in the concert was when Regine dedicated a song to her late dad, Mang Gerry, where she sang “The First Man in My Life” (composed by Ogie) where Regine cried while doing the song.

Regine’s fans went home happy. The concert was very entertaining and really worth the price of admission. Regine also thanked her fans for shelling out their hard-earned money just to be able to celebrate with the singer her 30th anniversary.
