Cortes appeals to bizmen to work closely with government

CEBU, Philippines — Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes appeals to the business sector to re-commit in working with the government to make Mandaue the center of economic development in the province.

“The business of the government is governance. You take care of the business,” the re-elected Mayor told members of the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) led by its president Stanley Go.

Cortes vowed to eradicate corruption in the local government offices and to improve the ease of doing business within the city.

He shared the vision of his administration to the business sector in making Mandaue City not only the region’s center of development, “but in the entire Philippines.”

He said Mandaue can only provide a conducive environment for business through good and strong governance, but it is the business sector that should make the vision happen.

“Show us the way and we will follow your lead,” he convinced the business sector to work closely with his government, pushing relationship beyond handshakes.

Contrary to impressions that government is only good in handshaking the one hand and the other hand is picking the businessmen’s pockets, Mandaue City he said pursues transparent governance.

According to Colliers International Philippines, Mandaue City holds promising future especially in real estate developments—residential, hospitality and commercial. (FREEMAN)
