Phoenix LPG to expand with more ‘super hubs’
CEBU, Philippines — Phoenix LPG Philippines is looking to boost its foothold in the Cebu market with its improved LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) brand.
Evelyn Gerodias, general manager for Visayas and Mindanao, said the LPG producer is looking to establish more retail hubs in Cebu.
“We plan to expand our network through our ‘super hubs,’” she said at the launch of the rebranded Phoenix Super LPG on Saturday in Cebu.
The firm is looking to open more of these hubs, which are stand-alone community stores.
Gerodias said there are over 250 retail hubs nationwide, 18 are in Cebu.
“The LPG demand in Visayas is growing by about 11% in 2018,” she said, noting much of this demand comes from Cebu where most LPG consumers are commercial establishments.
The unit of Phoenix Petroleum had tied up with Grainsmart Corp. to exclusively market, distribute and sell its LPG products in the rice retailer’s stores nationwide.
The company remains optimistic on the demand for LPG despite the prevalence of LPG-refilled butane canisters and electronic cooking devices.
Phoenix’s new LPG was previously known as Gas Petronas, the new addition to its portfolio that was acquired in 2017.
Phoenix Petroleum, controlled by business tycoon Dennis Uy, had previously acquired the Japanese convenience store chain FamilyMart.
The company also has ongoing talks on a potential liquefied natural gas (LNG) business in the country with China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) Gas and Power Group Co. Ltd.
