CanCham expands scope of ICT awards

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu-based Information Technology and Communications companies are invited to join the upcoming 9th International ICT Awards Philippines, in order to make their mark in the global landscape.

Organized by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines in association with the Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines, this annual event is moving towards covering the regional areas, specifically Cebu, noting the profound tremendous growth in the ICT industry here.

"We are looking for new nominations outside of the National Capital Region and even expand our categories to include more deserving companies to be recognized, " said CanCham president Julian Payne in a press conference.

While most ICT, business process outsourcing firms are headquartered in Manila, Payne said the extension of the nomination search is for companies that have its main office in Cebu and other areas outside of NCR.

This year, the award will take its emphasis on the technology-based companies, including local software developers, start-up companies, and mobile app developers, among others.

"The Philippines is continually thriving and now plays a significant role in the ASEAN as well as in the global market. As we see the tremendous economic growth in the country, IT-BPM industry continues to be one of the key drivers. IT-BPM companies are now capitalizing on the emerging sectors like finance and accounting, healthcare, and animation," said Payne.

According to Payne, it is important for Cebuano companies to participate in the award so they could take a good grip in the international market place, to achieve high-profile national and global recognition.

"We are inviting small and medium IT-BPM players especially those outside NCR to take part, send in their nominations, and be equally recognized," he added.

Last year's winners included; Convergys Philippines (BPO Company of the Year); Stream Global Services Philippines Inc., (BPO Employer of the Year); Manulife Business Processing Services (Shared Services Excellence of the Year); Mearsk Global Services Center Philippines (Emerging Services Excellence of the Year); Hewlett Packard Asia Pacific (Most Innovative BPO Company of the Year); The Results Companies (The Fastest-Growing BPO Company of the Year); Wipro Philippines (Quality Program of the Year), and Congressman Sigredo Tinga, and Senator Edgardo Angara (ICT Individual Contributor of the Year).
