Your Sunday Driver Kartzone Endurance Race

CEBU, Philippines - In December 15, 2012, Kartzone will be holding a 6 hour Endurance Race consisting of 6 teams with 5 members, one member being a representative of the media.   It has long been a Kartzone tradition to organize Endurance Races every December to culminate the Karting Season and kick-start the Annual  Awarding Ceremonies.

Wiki defines Endurance racing as a form of motorsport racing which is meant to test the durability of equipment and endurance of participants. Teams of multiple drivers attempt to cover a large distance in a single event, with participants given a break with the ability to change during the race. Endurance races can be run either to cover a set distance in laps as quickly as possible, or to cover as much distance as possible over a preset amount of time.

My last year’s team, not quite a golf senior’s tour team but racing veterans with young hearts, were the underdogs of the show.   We had the honor of having Nimrod Quiñones to complete our team.

We had a jolly yet exhausting start as the starting drivers had to run the whole 130 meters of the Kartzone “straight” before we could reach the go-karts that were parked in the opposite end of the track.   I started for my team and went on to do 156 laps in an hour and a half of running.  My teammates, veteran karters Dr. Clive Fermin and Ray “Radical Ads” Tan, and current Novice Champion Fred “Tiktilaok!” Cortes,   were very much up to the challenge that we finished third overall with 496 laps in 6 hours.
