                    [Summary] => One of my favorite memes posted on Facebook, CTTO (credit to the owner), is of a woman daydreaming of walking down the aisle again and hearing these magical words “This is your Captain speaking…”

                    [Title] => Postcards from Sumilon
                    [Summary] => Sumilon is a low key small island towards the southeastern tip of the Cebu mainland. Despite its breathtaking views, the island is not as swarmed by tourists and, thus, is an ideal destination for a quiet time ‘away from it all’. Those who’ve been there attest that Sumilon Island is just ‘picture perfect’.

                    [Title] => Prewar postcards from the ‘lost’ City of Pines
                    [Summary] =>

Old photographs enhance the nostalgia for times past and places forever altered. We have mixed feelings of elation and loss as we surf websites and Facebook postings that remind us how our barrios, towns and cities — how our country —used to look like in some imagined “golden age”, ‘halcyon years’ or, as the very senior citizens amongst us would muse,  “peace time”, referring to the pre-war era.

I love postcards. My dad used to send them to us kids when he traveled a lot in the 1960s. In the late ‘70s I followed suit and sent back postcards of Europe to my folks.

In this age of email and texting it is rare to receive postcards. The only ones I still get are from friends or relatives traveling abroad. Postcards are still a good way to say, “Wish you were here!” The fact that the piece of cardboard in your hand physically traveled thousands of kilometers lends something special to the message on it.
