                    [Summary] =>

They are quick to mill around as an older family member or the teacher at school begin to tell a story.  Child psychologists explain that children are easily captivated by stories because of their fertile imagination - scenes come alive in their minds as the story is told.

It was with much excitement therefore that I went to see the currently-showing Guess Who – only to find out that it is not exactly a remake of the 1967 Stanley Kramer film Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, which is about an elderly white couple (Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn) who has to come to terms with the decision of their daughter Katharine Houghton (Hepburn’s niece in real life) to marry a black scientist (Sidney Poitier).

For me, going to the cinema is not just for entertainment but also an educational experience, an intellectual adventure. It is a hassle-free trip to different parts of the world without the complex currency exchange rates, countless airport checks and language barriers. Cinema is my regular escape to faraway places, like the former Iron countries who are coping with life in the new EU to the brothels in Bombay, the Dead Sea, to Tibet to see a weeping camel to life in an industrial Canadian city.
