Inside the bubble

SMART CLARK GIGA CITY, Pampanga, Philippines — There’s no denying Ginebra coach Tim Cone’s greatness on the court.

With 22 PBA rings across his name, the master tactician has perfected the craft behind decades of experience and unmatched acumen.

One would think that the key to success is how he prepares the game plan and his great ability adjust to any given situation.

But inside the first-ever PBA bubble, Cone found other ways to face the challenge through off-court activities.

From swimming and running every day to playing golf once a week for two months, Cone made the most out of his extra time here.

“I’m a big believer that you have to do physical stuff to rest your mental mind,” said Cone, who played his last round at the Mimosa last week.

“So I play golf, I swim to basically rest my mind,” he said.

But as the Gin Kings moved closer to the finals, he found out that he couldn’t take basketball off his mind even when he’s in the pool or the golf course.

“Ironically, when I swim, all I do is think about basketball. I’m doing laps and thinking basketball. I develop my game plans in the pool,” he said in jest.

It’s just in his system.
