PLDT provides 5G technology

MANILA,Philippines — PLDT, through its wireless arm Smart Communications Inc., is set to use 5G technology for the digital broadcast of the upcoming Southeast Asian Games in preparation for the further roll-out of the said technology in the country.

TV5 and Cignal launched the “Sama-Sama sa SEA Games” campaign that covers the official broadcast of multi-sport event, which is supported by Smart, yesterday.

This provides a comprehensive, up-to-date, and in-depth coverage on of the event on free-to-air, pay TV, and digital from Nov. 30 to Dec. 11.

Free-to-air can be viewed on TV5 and 5 Plus, while Pay TV or Cignal subscribers can catch the broadcast on One Sports plus three new channels – SEA Games Channel, Team Pilipinas and SEA Games News Channel.

For the digital digital broadcast, this can be viewed on ESPN5.com, the Cignal Play app plus three SEA Games-dedicated YouTube channels that will be available 24/7.

PLDT senior vice president and head of Consumer Business-Individual Group Oscar Reyes said the campaign aims to offer consumers a new experience as it will introduce some 5G technology features, such as freezing videos and offering 360 degree angles of videos, which are available for users with 5G-capable phones in Smart 5G cities.
