Diliman, Centro aim to join UCBL leaders

MANILA, Philippines — Defending champion Diliman College and Centro Escolar University hope to forge a four-way tie for the early lead when they face separate rivals today in the PG Flex Linoleum-Universities and Colleges Basketball League at the Olivarez College gym in Parañaque City.

The Diliman Blue Dragons collide with Technological Institute of the Philippines Engineers at 4 p.m. while the CEU Scorpions take on the National College of Business and Arts Wildcats in the opening of the three-game bill at 12 noon.

Both the Blue Dragons and Scorpions are coming off inspiring wins, and another victory would put them on level with the University of Batangas Brahmans.

Also going for a second straight win is Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas which faces Olivarez College in the 2 p.m. match of the eight-team tournament now on its fourth season.

Diliman’s Johnnel Rey Bauzon will be a marked man today after exploding for 29 points in the team’s runaway 97-69 win over the Dolphins last Monday.

The Scorpions, on the other hand, unveiled a new star from the south in Eric Gabrielle Tuadles who banged in 23 points spiked by six triples in their 89-69 rout of the Olivarez Sea Lions in the opener last week.
