MANILA, Philippines — Fil-Am BMX rider Daniel Caluag has drawn boost on his bid for a second Olympic stint with his outright invite to the BMX test event for the Tokyo Games set Oct. 1-5.

Caluag, who made his Olympic debut in 2012 in London and won the gold medal in the Incheon Asian Games two years later, was chosen under the Tokyo 2020 and International Cycling Union (UCI) policy for 64 riders from top 28 countries for the test race.

In the test event, Caluag will get the feel of the Olympic competition and size up rivals in the qualification process for BMX that will run until May next year.

And Caluag is hoping he’ll end up as one of the 24 Olympic qualifiers.

According to PhilCycling, Caluag will fly to the country in September from the United States where he is currently training and will continue preparation in Tagaytay City where there is already a BMX track that will be used for the 30th Southeast Asian Games late this year.

The track is expected to be fully finished anytime this month as the UCI-standard starting gate imported from the US is already on shipment.

Caluag will stay in the country for the whole of September before travelling to Tokyo for the test event.
