Marinero, Che’Lu Bar score big in PBA D-League

MANILA, Philippines — Santi Santillan sizzled with 29 points and Marinerong Pilipino drubbed CD14 Designs-Trinity University of Asia, 91-72, to bounce back in the PBA D-League yesterday.

Santillan fired most of his offensive output in the telling third quarter, dropping 13 anchored on three treys to fuel the Skippers’ breakaway.

He went on an 11-for-20 clip while also producing 10 rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block to enable Marinerong Pilipino to recover from a loss to Wangs Basketball the last time out and improve to fourth at 3-2 in the Foundation Group.

“We focus on Santi’s offense, inside and outside. We give him extra time before and after practice. The results showed today,” said Skippers coach Yong Garcia.

Che’Lu Bar and Grill held off a late charge by McDavid, 109-99, to string up back-to-back wins and improve to joint third in the Aspirants’ Group.

Jessie Collado and Rey Suerte helped restore order for the Revellers in the last two minutes of play to avert the team’s near collapse after leading most of the way.

Che’Lu Bar and Grill chalked up its third win overall in four games for a tie with Cignal-Ateneo.

“We have a tendency to relax. We need to address that. Against school-based teams who are stronger and faster, I don’t think we can win with this kind of game,” said Revellers coach Stevenson Tiu.
