Foton back on track; Petron stays on top

MANILA, Philippines — Foton got back on track while holder Petron streaked to its sixth consecutive win as the Top 2 teams played true to form against their respective rivals yesterday in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference at the Filoil Flying V Center.

Five days since getting their four-game roll stopped, the Tornadoes picked themselves up and regained their winning ways with a 25-23, 26-28, 25-21, 25-19 victory over Cocolife while the unbeaten Blaze Spikers overpowered winless Sta. Lucia, 25-9, 25-12, 25-6.

Carla Sandoval, who filled in for injured starter Arianne Layug, punched in 18 points to share scoring honors with Mina Aganon, who also finished with 18 plus 22 digs and eight receptions, as Foton rebounded from its straight-set loss to F2 Logistics and solidified its hold of second spot.

“The loss to F2 made us better as a team,” said Foton coach Aaron Velez. “It served as a wakeup call for the team, for us to improve on our weaknesses and I’m happy that my players responded.”

Fil-Am Kalei Mau delivered 21 markers with 16 digs and six receptions to lead the Asset Managers, who slipped to 1-5.
