CEU shoots for sixth straight vs St Joseph

MANILA, Philippines — Centro Escolar University shoots for its sixth straight win and the solo lead when it battles winless St. Joseph College of Bulacan today in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) Season 3 at the Olivarez College gym in Parañaque.

The Scorpions and the Bulacan dribblers square off at 2 p.m. with the Scorpions going for an encore after mauling SJC, 120-46, in the first round – thanks to the efforts of Senegalese Malick Maodo Diouf, Judelric Fuentes and Rich Lorenz Guinitaran.

The SJC dribblers are bound to suffer another embarrassing defeat if they can’t improve their shooting and defensive strategy.

CEU finished the first round tied for the lead with Olivarez College and Diliman College on similar 5-1 cards.

The Scorpions, however, own the longest streak, having won their previous five games since dropping a close 86-83 decision to the Olivarez Sea Lions in the opening day.

Clashing at 12 noon are Technological Institute of the Philippines and Philippine Christian University with the former out to follow up its 87-63 win over the SJC dribblers.

The tournament is backed by CaféFrance, Yakult, Gerry’s Grill, Hapee Toothpaste, MaxSell Power Tool and Tough Mama Home and Kitchen Appliances, Tanduay Athletics and Toyota Motor Philippines.
