PNP, Judiciary topple UNTV rivals

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police rode on a big second quarter run to demolish GSIS, 98-50, and notch its fourth straight victory in the second UNTV Cup Executive Face-Off at the Pasig City Sports Center over the weekend.

The PNP Responders, with Joel de Mesa at the helm, erased a 20-23 deficit in the first quarter by outscoring the Furies, 28-7, as they took a commanding 48-30 lead at the break.

Anthony Padua, Ireneo Dalogdog, Philip Gil Philips, and Israel Dickson then took charge at the resumption, leading the Responders to their most lopsided win in the tournament presented by UNTV through its president and CEO Daniel Razon.

Making up for the absence of Joshua Alejando, De Mesa tallied 16 points, Dalogdog and Padua chipped 15 markers while Dickson and Philips combined for 13 points for the Responders.

Meantime, Court Administrator Midas Marquez hit a huge triple midway in the second quarter as Judiciary rolled to an 81-41 romp over Malacañang-Philippine Sports Commission for its third win in four games.
