Alas men to fly high in Candon?

MANILA, Philippines — Candon City rides the waves of its successful hosting of the AVC Women’s Cup last month as it stages another international event in the SEA V-League Men’s tournament unfurling tomorrow at the Candon City Arena.
Alas Pilipinas will try to surpass its fourth-place finish in last year’s two legs as it clashes with Cambodia at 5 p.m. to usher in the five-day tournament, which comes more than a month after the AVC Women’s Cup in the same venue.
The Filipinos will take a break Thursday and plunge back into action versus last year’s second leg titlist Indonesia.
Alas’ best performance in this annual meet was third – accomplished twice both two years ago.
It failed to replicate it last year when it fell in the battle for third place to Vietnam in the first leg also in Candon and to Thailand in the second leg in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The Nationals hope for a better effort on this one.
The target is top two in their group to advance to the semis.
The other bracket is composed of last year’s first leg champion Thailand, Vietnam and Myanmar.
