Senate, PNP keep share of UNTV lead
MANILA, Philippines — Senate and Philippine National Police kept their share of the lead after pulling off similar scary wins in the second UNTV Cup Executive Face-Off at the Pasig City Sports Center over the weekend.
The Senate Sentinels banked on Warren Tan in the crunch and eked out a 79-77 win over the defending champions Armed Forces of the Philippines Cavaliers for their third straight win in the annual event organized by UNTV president and CEO Daniel Razon.
Tan scored a game-high 23 points while Senators Joel Villanueva and Sonny Angara combined for 27 points.
It was the Cavaliers’ third straight defeat in the annual event for public servants.
The Responders, on the other hand, drew 26 points from Joshua Alejandro and 13 markers from Joel de Mesa as they outlasted the Judiciary side, 81-75.
In the other game of the eight-team tournament offering P1 million to the chosen charity of the champion team, the DOJ Boosters even their card at 1-1 with a 75-43 drubbing of the GSIS Furies, who fell to 0-2.
