MANILA, Philippines — AJ Lim boosted his confidence ahead of the country’s Davis Cup second round duel with Thailand as he powered University of the East to the UAAP tennis championship for the second straight year.

Lim, who is turning 18 in May, also bagged the MVP honors for the second consecutive year, which he described as very special.

“It’s a special feeling to lead UE to another championship and to win the MVP award at the same time. Hopefully, I can sustain the momentum going into our crucial tie with the Thais,” said Lim.

The Nationals will face the Thais on April 7-8 at the PCA indoor courts, where Lim made history after becoming the youngest champion of the PCA Open at 15.

Like last year, Lim, backed by PAL president and COO Jaime Bautista, the Philippine Sports Commission through its chairman Butch Ramirez, and Philta president Atty. Antonio Cablitas, finished the event undefeated.

UE’s rise as UAAP’s No. 1 squad would not be made possible without coach Numero Lim, who anchored the team’s romp on patience, sacrifice and team unity.
