Eagles try to keep hot streak vs Warriors

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Ateneo seeks to keep its streak going while National U aims to get out of a mini-slump today when the joint second-placers face separate rivals in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center.

The Lady Eagles (6-3) gun for their third consecutive victory at 2 p.m. against a University of the East side (2-7) that has shown the ability to spring surprises even as the Lady Bulldogs (6-3) try to recover from back-to-back losses to pacesetting La Salle and Ateneo in the 4 p.m. setto against Adamson (4-5).

As opposed to their 0-2 start in the first round, the Lady Eagles kicked off the second phase of the elims with payback wins over previous conquerors Far Eastern and NU to move closer to the summit.

“It’s a huge boost not only on our standings but also to our confidence that we’re able to get back at these teams that beat us in the first round. It shows na kahit gaano ka nabugbog (even if I got beat badly) at the start, you can always give yourself a chance if you work hard,” said AdMU skipper Maddie Madayag, who cited the team’s much-improved performance in reception, blocking and defense.

Out for a reversal are the Lady Warriors, who enjoyed upset victories over Adamson and Santo Tomas sandwiching the first and second rounds before falling to the Lady Falcons in five sets their second meeting last Sunday.
