MANILA, Philippines — Running junkies are up for two kinds of treats in the Clark Sunset Marathon slated in Pampanga this December 9.

First, the high of running. Second, the picturesque view of Clark Freeport Zone.

“The Philippines is hot and humid so it’s practical to actually run early in the morning or at night,” said RunRio Events’ Andrew Neri. “Since it’s hard to organize a night run in Manila, we’re doing the race in Clark.”

The event, as pointed out by Clark Development Corp.’s Noemi Julian, is inspired by other world-famous running events like the Boston, New York and the Tokyo marathons; and its aim is to put the country on the global map as a running haven.

“Our goal is not just a one-time event, but to have an annual running event that will make our country one of the top running destinations,” added RunRio’s Rio dela Cruz.

The event will feature 5K, 10K, 21K and a full marathon. The race gun fires — according to distance — at 4:45 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 4:15 p.m., respectively. The marathon kicks off at 4 p.m. The showpiece will be held at the Parade Grounds of the Clark Freeport Zone.

Expected to draw 5,000 participants, the Sunset Marathon is also open to foreign runners.

Cash prize of P100,000, P80,000 and P50,000 await the top three finishers of the Open Category, while P30,000, P20,000 and P10,000 are up for grabs for the top three Local Category performers.

A musical showcase will cap off the event where DJs Ashley Rivera and Tom Taus are taking top-billing.
