Ramos, Almario forge finals duel in MVP U-9 badminton tiff

MANILA, Philippines – Roaquine Mari Ramos and Ryan Almario Bernal both of MSI Jrs. downed their respective foes Friday to set up a title duel in the boys' singles under-9 Nationals of the MVP National Badminton Juniors Championships presented by Smart set from May 21-27 at the Powersmash in Makati City.

Ramos downed Batang Kuya Al's Franz Joseph Masakayan, 21-10, 21-17, and San Pablo City's Jasper Angeles Gubaton, 21-16, 21-13, to seal a title showdown with Bernal, who dumped Andren Pullon, Jr., 21-3, 21-10, and JLTC's Jhon Michael Delima, 21-13, 21-14.

JLTC's Chris Lorenz Manuel trounced Amahit Badminton's Ron Ezekiel Zacarias, 21-16, 21-10, while Team ABR's Wijel Angelo Albo edged DGS Lining-Bulacan's Karl Raphael Contreras, 21-18, 19-21, 21-16, to forge a title duel in the boys' singles U11 Nationals.

Whackers' Kervin Llanes turned back teammate Johnyl Mialda, 20-22, 21-9, 21-16, and ABR's Jewel Angelo Albo smashed Whackers' Nestojan Carido Tapales, 21-14, 21-18, to barge into the finals of the boys' singles U-15 Nationals.

In the girls' U15 Nationals, ABR's Anthea Marie Gonzalez and USC's Chelsea Katrina Akiatan defeated JLTC's Viana Meryl Antonio, 21-14, 21-14, and Metro Kidapawan's Justine Jica Barasona, 21-14, 21-12, respectively, to advance to the final round.

In girls' singles U11 Nationals, Whackers' Andrea Princess Hernandez waylaid San Pablo City's Erin Angeli Vitangcol, 21-10, 21-2, to face off with DSG Lining-Bulacan's Ashley Bernardino, a 19-21, 21-15, 21-13 winner over Aero Athletics Academy's Frente Macalib-og, in the girls singles U-11 Luzon.

CBDD Smashers Mati's Andre Alexis Macalalag bested JLTC's Anielka Maeve Paz, 21-19, 21-14, to clinch the first seat to the girls' singles' U-13 Nationals against the winner between Whackers' Andrea Princess Hernandez and C-One Badminton Club's Ella Kristine Juntilla Bualat.
