Pinoys top Johor Tennis Invitational

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines bested 19 other teams from Indonesia and Malaysia to capture the crown in the Johor Invitational Tennis Team Competition 2016 at the Johor Tennis Academy in Taman Perling recently.

Team Le Soleil de Boracay, which competed in the men’s doubles with combined ages of 80, 90 and 100 categories, was composed of Philippine Tennis Association chairman and sports patron Jean Henri Lhuillier, Philippine Columbian Association Open eight-time champion Johnny Arcilla, Philta board members Randy Villanueva and Gerard Maronilla, and Philippine tennis stakeholders Manuel Suarez, Jackie Tomacruz, Rolly Oliquino, Henry Escalante and Andrian Raturandang.

“We’re so glad to have won this tournament. As the only group from the Philippines, there was a lot of pressure, but we took it positively and remained focused. Everyone in the team gave every match his best,” said Lhuillier.

He added that the event was also a good opportunity to build valuable connections with other tennis stakeholders in the region.

Sakato Padang from Indonesia placed second while Pemko Batam, also from Indonesia, and Hytech from Malaysia finished third and fourth, respectively.
