MANILA, Philippines – The biggest fight that the world wants to see might happen next year.

Floyd Mayweather Sr. told Fighthype.com on Wednesday (Thursday Manila time) that his son might have Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao as his 49th opponent in the pro ranks.

"Man, I'm pretty sure that if nothing else happen, he's gonna get Pacquiao...it's gonna happen. That fight's gonna happen. Trust me," Mayweather, Sr. told Fighthype.com's Ben Thompson.

"You mark my words and we'll see. And it needs to happen. Just like Ali and Joe Frazier, or Ali and George Foreman, something like that, man, it's one of those fights like that," he added.

With two fights left in his Showtime contract, Floyd Jr. has yet to announce his next opponent after disposing Marcos Maidana for the second time.

Mayweather, Jr, who currently holds a 47-0-record with 26 knockouts is expected to fight in May 2015. His father believes all signs are pointing to a Pacquiao fight after that provided that the eight-division world champion takes care of his business.

The rumored mega fight was all the more fanned by the news of Top Rank and Showtime in negotiation to stage pay-per-view fights together.

Pacquiao, who is under Bob Arum's Top Rank promotions, is set to fight American challenger Chris Algieri on Nov. 22 in Macau. If he wins, Pacquiao might finally end up taking a megabuck bout against the unbeaten Mayweather, Jr.

"Well, it might be number 49. Floyd's gonna kick his little ass," added the elder Mayweather, who maintained that his son would pick Pacquiao apart.

The outspoken trainer thinks Pacquiao does not stand a chance to give his son his first loss.

"He's tailor-made to eat the right hand all day long. You gotta remember, Pacquiao is a southpaw. He's a southpaw and Floyd is right-handed, so he'll eat right hands and left hooks all night, and more than likely, he will be going to sleep again. Believe me," Mayweather, Sr. said.

He also defended his son from their detractors that the unbeaten champion is dodging Pacquiao to keep his record perfect.

"Well, a lot of people are going to say, "Floyd was scared of Pacquiao. Floyd was this, that, and the other." Floyd is not scared of Pacquiao, man," Mayweather, Sr. said.

He argued that Pacquiao was knocked down by Juan Manuel Marquez, who his son has toyed around leading to a unanimous decision win last year.

It's all talk as of this moment.

Pacquiao, who recently took a jab at Mayweather, Jr. on Twitter for being “uneducated” and for not fearing God, keeps mum while he is in deep training for his next fight.

The Filipino boxing icon would rather let his punches do the talking.
