The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The big names in Philippine bowling swing into action at Coronado Lanes starting Aug. 16 in the national finals of the prestigious Bowling World Cup.

Six-time world champion Paeng Nepomuceno, former world titlist Biboy Rivera and national kegler Benshir Layoso lead the 80 men’s finalists while Liza del Rosario, Liza Clutario, Mades Arles and Krizziah Tabora banner the 52 ladies’ final aspirants.

The 152 men’s and ladies’ finalists will bowl in three different centers as they bid for the right to represent the country in the international finals scheduled at Sky Bowling Center in Wroclaw, Poland Nov. 1-9 this year.

The men’s finalists will roll 12 games on Aug. 16 while the ladies will bowl 12 games on Aug. 17 – both days at Coronado Lanes – to determine the top 34 finishers who will advance to the second day of competition.

With their scores carried over, the top 34 will bowl another 12 and 10 games on Aug. 19 (men) and Aug.  20 (ladies) at Paeng’s Midtown to pick the top eight who will stay in the running for the international trip and the national crown.

With their scores carried over, the eight men’s and ladies’ bowlers will roll one round-robin format and positioning, with the winner getting 30 points and 15 points for a tie.  The top three will then advance to the stepladder finals.
