Altas, Generals win second straight in Fr. Martin cagefest

MANILA, Philippines – The University of Perpetual Help Altas and the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals turned back their foes Thursday to post their second straight wins in the  in the 20th Fr. Martin Summer Cup basketball tournament.

Ardy Dizon and Earl Thompson fired 15 and 11 points to lead the Altas to a 67-62 stopping of the Ateneo-B Blue Eagles at the Trinity University of Asia gymnasium in Quezon City.

Sidney Onwuberre chipped in 11 points for the EAC Generals as they thwarted the National University-B Bulldogs, 70-65.

This allowed the Altas and the Generals to move ahead in the early lead of Group A.

In the junior action, Kins Go shot 10 points for the National University Bullpups as they won over Xavier School, 78-74.

San Beda-B won by default over Far Eastern University, and so did the Our Lady of Fatima Junior Phoenix over the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs.

Dizon’s first of three triples in the start of the second half stunned and the Blue Eagles, and helped the Altas gain the upperhand in the ensuing play, 30-24.

His second trey handed the Altas a nine-point edge, 44-35, near the end of the period.

A third 3-pointer came with a second left, and the Altas went on to enjoy a 48-35 spread in the start of the fourth.
