MANILA, Philippines -- San Mig rookie Justin Melton is expected to give the toughest challenge for defending Slam Dunk champion Chris Ellis of Brgy. Ginebra.
While Ellis is already practicing his repertoire for the coming All Star festivities next week, Melton is taking it easy.
"I haven't think about the Slam Dunk competition yet," Melton told Philstar.com.
"I'm concentrating on the season, helping the team win. That's what's more important to me," he added.
Dubbed as "Quickmelt" for his quick first step and mad hops to the basket, Melton said he's taking suggestions from friends for his repertoire.
"I'll see if I can even do it. I don't have anything planned yet," said the 5-11 Melton, easily the smallest in the field.
The Fil-Am guard, whose mother hails from Pampanga, have thrown sick dunks during the season that made him an instant favorite.
The former Asean Basketball League (ABL) star though see the competition as top notch this year.
"Japeth (Aguilar) is a great dunker, Chris is the defending champion, I'll just go out there and see what I can," Melton said. "May the best dunker win."
Crowding Ellis, Melton and Aguilar are Arwind Santos of San Miguel Beer, Rey Guevarra and Cliff Hodge of Meralco and Calvin Abueva of Alaska.
The Slam Dunk competition will be part of the Skills Challenge on April 4 (Friday).
