MANILA, Philippines – A high school player dropped a record-high 120 points during a game at a tournament in Quezon City recently, breaking the previous record of 104 points established by La Salle’s Jeron Teng during his days as a high school cager from Xavier School.
Clark Quijano of AMA University High School reportedly finished with the whopping points tally in leading his team to a 166-85 slaughter of Lord’s Grace Christian School in the 7th Mariano Bondoc Cup tournament at the Hope Christian Academy in Fairview, Quezon City.
The 16-year-old Quijano fired 100 points in the first half, including 59 in the opening quarter alone, then followed it up with 20 markers in the second half.
Teng previously held the record for the most points scored in a Philippine league, exploding for 104 markers in Xavier’s 164-74 rout of Grace Christian College in the Freego Tiong Lian Basketball Association tournament on Jan. 5, 2011. He went on to join the De La Salle Green Archers in the UAAP in 2012, becoming that season's Rookie of the Year.
Among those who achieved similar scoring feats include former Jose Rizal University Light Bomber Keith Agovida, who erupted for 82 points in leading his team to a 127-49 blowout of Malayan Mapua in an NCAA game in 2008.
Agovida’s former teammate, guard Joshua Saret, then broke the former’s record when he scattered 89 points in the Light Bombers’ 171-43 mauling of the Angeles U Foundation Junior Danes in 2009. Saret also finished with a rare quadruple-double that game, pulling down 11 rebounds, dishing out 12 assists and registering 13 steals to cap a remarkable performance.
