MANILA, Philippines - The Bicol chapter of the Philippine Swim League finally put in motion its swimming program for swimmers in the region following years of inactivity with the staging of the PSL Region 5 swim meet, 44th leg of the PSL Swim Circuit, which ended yesterday at the  Bicol University swimming pool.

Lawyer Ma. Teresa Mahiwo, PSL Region 5 director, expressed elation over the outcome of the meet, which drew five swimming clubs from the Bicol region, including the Naga team.

Bicol swimming clubs have been inactive after their swimmers were barred by the national sports association from competing in regional, national and international competitions following their membership in the PSL.

“For the first time in many years we have freedom to compete,“said Mahiwo, who is credited for finally unifying swimming clubs of the Bicol region.

“This will bring a strong message that Bicol will be a threat in national swimming events such as the Palaro,” added Mahiwo, whose Aquagliders won the team competition.

“Our aim is to encourage all teams to have their own regional swimming competitions,“ said PSL president Susan Papa. “In this way we can maximize participation of all age group swimmers throughout the country.”
