Gameville 5 wrests lead

MANILA, Philippines - Jonathan Lazaro fired 26 points as Gameville Los Pasigueños subdued POW, 104-94, in a duel of unbeaten teams to seize the solo lead in the first Burlington Life Begins@40 basketball tournament at Brgy. Bangkal gym in Makati over the weekend.

Ramon Hudencial and Alvin Medina added 21 and 19 points, respectively, for Gameville, which surged ahead with a 3-0 card, dropping POW to joint second with Cogeo Sat-Sun Basketball Club and Biñan in the Biofresh 40-and-above division of the two-category tournament sponsored by Burlington.

Cogeo drew a combined 50-point output from Ferdinand Capulong and Carlos Saliva while Virgilio Makiramdam and Roberto Sinon scored 20 and 14 points, respectively, for the Antipolo-based squad, which bucked the 31-point explosion of Romano Fernandez to score a 112-100 victory over Big J Sporting Goods.

Biñan defeated Burlington, 153-54, in the other game to force a three-way tie for second at 2-1.

In the Shock XT 50-and-above class, POW routed SunMoon/Electrobyte, 96-42, to zero in on the first finals berth with a 3-0 slate while Divina Law/Brgy. Bangkal smothered Paco Catholic School ‘74, 103-67, for a 2-1 card in the tournament backed by Business Mirror and Malaya Business Insight.

PCS ‘74 slid to 1-2 while SunMoon fell to 0-3.

Big J nipped Cogeo, 4-3, while Biñan nipped Burlington, 2-1, to remain on top with identical 3-0 marks in the Conti Balls 3 point father-and-son shootout in the 40-and-above class. POW beat Gameville, 4-2, to improve to 2-1, while Cogeo slipped to 1-2. Burlington and Gameville trail the field with 0-3 records.

In the 50-and-above category, Sun Moon upended POW, 4-3, to force a three-way tie for first at 2-1 with PCS ‘74 besting Divina Law, 3-1.

POW and Cogeo showed the way in the 40-and-above division of the AnaJet Printer father-and-daughter free throw contest with 3-0 marks while Divina Law also posted a 3-0 slate to pace the field in the 50-and-above class.
