Ateneo hosts school chess

MANILA, Philippines - The seventh Dr. Jose P. Leviste, Sr. Inter-School chess festival will be held March 19 at Ateneo’s grade school cafeteria in Quezon City with a big field expected to vie for top honors in various divisions.

A project of the Ateneo grade school, high school and collegiate chess teams under GM candidate Idelfonso Datu, the all-student non-master chess tournament is aimed at honing the skills and talent of the current roster of the Ateneo team competing in the UAAP as well as provide a competitive venue to promising chess players from other schools.

The annual tournament is held in memory of Ateneo alumnus Dr. Jose P. Leviste Sr. (HS ‘33, AA ‘35), father of Jose P. Leviste Jr. (GS ‘57, HS ‘61, AB ‘65) and Mario P. Leviste (GS ‘69, HS ‘73), and the grandfather of Jose D. Leviste III (AB 2001) and Maria Therese D. Leviste (AB 2000).
