Aunzo books ticket to Singapore Open

Reigning national champion Ferdie Aunzo fired an eagle-spiked four-under 68 Sunday then nipped six others in a playoff to grab a ticket in the $5 million Singapore Open firing off Thursday at the Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore.

Aunzo, who made four birdies and an eagle against two bogeys to gain a spot in the seven-man playoff, parred No. 18 then watched his rivals bogey their putts to clinch the final berth.

Aunzo was the lone Filipino player who survived the two-day, two-set qualifier with the top ICTSI bet joining Frankie Miñoza, Angelo Que, Juvic Pagunsan, Artemio Murakami, Tony Lascuna and Mars Pucay in the tournament proper starting Thursday.

The World Am veteran birdied Nos. 3, 7, 10 and 16 to negate his bogey mishaps on Nos. 9 and 11 and stay in the hunt. But it was his eagle feat from eight feet off a solid rescue wood shot from way out that anchored his four-under par effort in the one-day elims.
