Pasuc Nat’l Olympics gets going Monday

A total of 1,500 athletes from state universities and colleges throughout the Philippines will see action in the first PASUC (Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges) National Sports Olympics slated to start Monday at the Marikina Sports Park in Marikina City.

The PASUC athletes were culled from a series of competitions from schools and regional levels.

They will see action in 15 sports events, namely: athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, chess, dance sport, football, lawn tennis, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and volleyball.

The three competing delegations are the Luzon Association of State Universities (LASUC), Visayas Association of State Universities and Colleges (VASUC) and the Mindanao Association of State Colleges and Universities Foundation (MASCUF).

An additional cheer-dancing championship, will cap the closing ceremonies on April 20.

"The first PASUC National Sports Olympics aims to provide opportunities for sports participation for college students all over the country," said PASUC president Dr. Eldigario Gonzales.
