Maine: ‘Hindi lahat ng kaharap mong tao ay totoo!’

Sa Miyerkules ay ipalalabas na sa mga sinehan ang pelikulang Isa Pa With Feelings na pinagbibidahan nina Maine Mendoza at Carlo Aquino. Ginampanan ng aktor ang karakter ni Gali na isang deaf. 

Marami umanong natutunan si Maine tungkol sa deaf community habang ginagawa ang naturang proyekto. “Ang pinaka-na-realize ko, na kahit deaf sila, it doesn’t make them less of a person, na nakakaramdam sila. Capable din sila of loving and they deserve to be loved as well and they deserve to be understood and to be appreciated sa lahat ng ginagawa nila. Ang nakakatuwa since we’ve worked with deaf people doon sa film na makikita rin nila na hearing and deaf people can get along naman. They can get along well. Depende na rin sa ­ating mga hearing kung mag-e-effort ba tayo to talk to them,” nakangiting pahayag ni Maine.

Apat na taon na ngayon sa show business ang aktres kaya ayon sa dalaga ay marami na rin siyang natutunan mula sa industriyang kanyang ginagalawan. “Hindi lahat ng kaharap mong tao ay totoo sa iyo. Pero hindi lang naman ‘yan applicable sa mundo ng showbiz. Kahit sa ibang mundo, kahit ibang career naman,” giit niya.

Nyoy, kontrabida sa pagbalik sa teatro

Sa kauna-unahang pagkakataon ay gumanap si Nyoy Volante bilang isang kontrabida sa teatro para sa musical na Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of the Fleet Street.

“Sa TV nagkontrabida na rin ako no’n but this is my first villain role in the theater world. It’s a different attack. Of course nando’n pa rin ‘yung comedy. Actually ‘yung insertion ng comedy in the show is different because iba rin ‘yung approach. Hindi katulad ng iba where the show is comedy from start to finish. Dito, there’s a certain mixture to it, merong certain approach and aside from wor­king with the greats, Lea Salonga, Jett Pangan, Ima Castro, it’s a really, hard piece and I guess with that comes ‘yung double satisfaction ‘pag nagawa n’yo na. Iba ‘yung satisfaction knowing you conquered it. The music and the story and especially the way direk Bobby Garcia is restaging it and executing it, iba eh,” pagbabahagi ni Nyoy.

Aminado ang singer at hurado ng Tawag ng Tanghalan na talagang malapit sa puso niya ang pag-arte sa entablado. “Even as a student I was with Gantimpala (Theater Foundation). I did my OJT with them and New Voice Company. I had early stints with Atlantis. But as an actor it was mostly with Atlantis. I did the production of Kanser with Gantimpala before. I was all set to be in the backstage of theater kasi I graduated AB Technical Theater so dapat backstage ako. I never really wanted to be in the performing side of things and then I did. People know me to be a singer but what a lot of people don’t know is that I entered theater first. I did theater and then eventually became a singer and then I had to stop theater because I had to focus on my singing career. And then after six years gusto ko na mag-theater ulit and I did it,” paglalahad ng singer. Reports from JCC
