Greta libangan lang ang pagho-host

For all intents and purposes (as well as intense purposes?), TV 5 must have taken a cue from Gretchen Barretto’s endless string of controversies, hence her baptism of fire this time as a game show host of You & Me Against the World.

Apart from her acting and recording, and pagho-host naman ang kina-career ngayon ni Greta via an original Pinoy game show to hit Philippine TV this month.

The “you” represents the contestant, the “me” is obviously Greta, and the “world” is made up of 48 people sitting, standing, clapping, smiling, cheering, and heckling on an elevated semi-circular stage at the background.

For its second episode, ang nagsilbing mundo (minus the kamunduhan) ay ang press people with celebrity contestants AiAi delas Alas and Arnell Ignacio. What I thought was a micro-mini, shorts pala ang suot-suot ni Greta na may accent sa likod at backless with web-like stockings that matched her signature high-heeled shoes. All in all, I thought I was seeing a James Bond girl. Puwede!

Hindi naman lingid sa kaalaman ng press, and perhaps anybody, that Greta’s partner Tony Boy Cojuangco once reigned supreme over TV 5 that’s now rumored (ngek!) to be foreign-owned, na ewan kung ilang porsyento na lang ang pagmamay-ari nito. Whatever, given Greta’s state, status and stature, does she really have to work her butt?

“Naku, ginagawa lang ’tong libangan ni Gretchen, pero kami (referring to himself and AiAi), ito na mismo ang kabuhayan namin,” pabirong sabi ni Arnell. Mabilis naman itong sinalag ni Greta, “Mabuti na ’to, at least, I won’t have time para magluka-lukahan. Hahaha!”

Sige, let me take it from that luka-lukahan reference. Literally naman kasi, nakakaloka ang game show ni Gretchen, even she (during the taped episode kung saan we, the press members, were invited to represent the world) shook her own world sa mga mali-mali niyang spiels.

Add to that, kung gusto ng TV 5 na maging mas engaging ang game show na ito, pakitutukan ang uri ng mga tanong which to me, sa totoo lang, could be an insult to the sensibilities and sensitivities of the viewers!

Take this case in point. Tanong: Ano ang tawag sa lalaking pusa? A. Pussycat; B. Tomcat. Remember that the object of the game is to go against the contestant’s answer even if correct para mas maraming pera ang makamit ng “world.”

But given these choices, one of which even an unborn child can answer. Teka muna....kakasa na lang ako sa Grade 5!
