US Embassy seeks info on shooting of American woman in Dumaguete

Juancho R. Gallarde - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A shooting incident in Dumaguete City two weeks ago involving an American woman had reached the attention of the US Embassy in Manila.

In a letter to Superintendent Jovito Atanacio, Dumaguete City Police chief, US Vice Consul William Covey asked for a copy of the police investigation report regarding the shooting to death of its citizen, identified as Lilia V. Wolff.

Atanacio said the US Embassy wanted updates of the incident as part of its efforts to further assist Mrs. Wolff who earlier reported the incident to the US authorities.

The case investigator of the City Police had taken the affidavit of a witness but there has been no positive identification of the perpetrator, Atanacio told The Freeman.

He only said the assailant was riding a motorcycle and wearing a hooded jacket at the time of the incident at about 5:45 p.m. last December 13 at Barangay Junob in the city.

There were no other evidences recovered except statements made by the victim that she noticed somebody took pictures of her while inside a fast food chain in 2015.

Another angle being looked into by the City Police was something personal to the Wolff couple that the police had refused to divulge until it can be substantiated.

The police has been also considering at the possibility that the shooter may not be directly pointing his gun to the victim, but someone else.

They are still in the process of establishing the trajectory of the bullet that hit first a metal portion of the tricycle, driven by the victim, that ricocheted before hitting her in the breast. (FREEMAN)
